Thomas Witherspoon, K4SWL will describe his firsthand account of surviving Hurricane Helene and the critical role played by amateur radio.
In September 2024, Thomas’ QTH in Swannanoa, North Carolina was hit hard by Hurricane Helene. In the middle of the chaos, with power and cell service gone, Thomas ran net control on a local repeater, passing critical trafic into and out of devastated areas when no other communications were possible.
His amateur radio skills were a genuine lifeline for his community and neighbors.
Please join us in welcoming Thomas as he take us behind the scenes of one of the most compelling real-world demonstrations of how amateur radio steps up in times of need.
Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W Upper Ferry Rd, Ewing Township at 7:00 pm EST.
The meetings are well-attended; members are encouraged to join.
