Jon Pearce (misspelled in graphic, update pending) WB2MNF, President of the Gloucester County ARC (NJ), will discuss the GCARC’s ‘Skunkworks’ exploration of Meshtastic—an emerging, open-source, LoRa-based mesh networking platform. With capabilities for both licensed amateur bands (902–928 MHz) and unlicensed sub-GHz frequencies, Meshtastic is designed for building decentralized, off-grid communication systems that enables text messaging, location sharing, and sensor data transmission, making it an ideal tool for emergency preparedness, outdoor adventures, and amateur experimentation.
Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W Upper Ferry Rd, Ewing Township at 7:00 pm EST.
The meetings are well-attended; members are encouraged to join.

Special film presentation: A celebration of Al Katz’s legacy
Earth Moon Earth: Remembering a Moonbounce Pioneer is a documentary film that celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Allen Katz. Dr. Katz helped pioneer moonbounce — a technique that involves transmitting signals to the moon and back to receiving stations on earth. The July Membership Meeting will begin with a screening of the film and an introduction of Dr. Katz’s family members as special guests.
Al Katz popularized moonbounce among ham radio operators and built a robust global community, all while earning 17 patents and teaching engineering to 2,000+ students across a 50-year career in education.
Dr. Katz passed away in 2024. ‘Earth Moon Earth’ is a tribute film — a love letter from a daughter to her dad.
Dr. Allen Katz – K2UYH was a long time member of the DVRA. Sally Katz, Allen’s wife and daughters Alisha and Tova will be in attendance at the club meeting.
