The Joy of Contesting

On Wednesday, July 10th at 7:00PM, the Delaware Valley Radio Association’s monthly membership meeting will feature a presentation on the “The Joy of Contesting”, given by Doug Grant, K1DG.

There will be a Pizza/Social Hour prior to the meeting at 6PM. Folks are asked to bring their own (soft) beverage. There is no charge for the pizza, but we do ask folks to give what they wish to help cover the cost.

In person monthly meetings are held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W Upper Ferry Rd, Ewing Township, NJ 08628 (Driving Directions). For the convenience of our members, these meetings are also hosted on Zoom. Members will receive an email with instructions on how to join the Zoom teleconference. Members of the public are invited to request conference credentials by sending a message to webmaster@w2zq.com.

We in DVRA, and some members individually, participate in some contests like NJ QSO Party, the ARRL Digital Contest and the ARRL EME contest.  …and we could do more, have more fun, and enjoy our hobby even more…

Doug Grant (K1DG), an accomplished contester, is our speaker this month to show us the joy and satisfaction one can get from radio-sport contesting.

Doug was licensed in 1967 and started contesting as a novice.  He has contested in almost every band and every mode and has won many awards and has been inducted into the CQ Contest Hall of Fame.   He has achieved DXCC in 10 bands plus digital and achieved DXCC honor roll in SSB and CW.  He has served in officer positions in clubs, ARRL and CQWW all relating to contesting.

You can read more about Doug in his new book, Amateur Radio Contesting for Beginners.

Our monthly meetings are open to the public. Feel free to join for all or part of each meeting.
