Magic Band Revealed — 6 Meter DXing

On Wednesday, May 8th at 7:00PM, the Delaware Valley Radio Association’s monthly membership meeting featured a presentation on the “Magic Band Revealed — 6 Meter DXing”, given by Jim Wilson, K5ND.

In person monthly meetings are held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W Upper Ferry Rd, Ewing Township, NJ 08628 (Driving Directions). For the convenience of our members, these meetings are also hosted on Zoom. Members will receive an email with instructions on how to join the Zoom teleconference. Members of the public are invited to request conference credentials by sending a message to webmaster@w2zq.com.

You, too, can capture the MAGIC of six meters. It takes time and skill, but you’ll achieve incredible results from an average station. In fact, a dipole will work incredible DX under the right conditions. This presentation covers propagation modes, equipment, antennas, software, online assistance, operating awards, and contests. This will be superb preparation for your efforts on six meters.

Jim Wilson, K5ND, is an active operator and addicted grid chaser on six meters. From his Grapevine, Texas, home using a hand-turned push-up mast and Yagi, he’s worked 70+ DXCC countries and over 700 grids on six meters. His early six-meter QSOs included Argentina and Uruguay using a dipole in the attic, Scotland and the Canary Islands using a fence-mounted vertical, and New Zealand and Japan using a Moxon at 20 feet. He’s provided presentations on six meters for the ARRL Learning Network and the QSO Today Ham Expo. He’s written articles for the National Contest Journal, QST, and CQ magazine. His book Magic Band Revealed has just topped 11,000 downloads. You can find his blog at www.k5nd.net.
