WØW Special Event on 11/1: Martians are landing!

Greetings all! The DVRA will be marking the 88th anniversary of the Orson Welles broadcast of the War of the Worlds on October 30, 1938, with a special event station, WØW.

In the broadcast, Martian invaders first landed in Grovers Mill, NJ (in West Windsor township). The DVRA will be operating WØW for the 5th year (Yikes! How time flies.) on Sunday, November 1 from Noon to 5PM in Van Nest Park (218 Cranbury Rd, West Windsor Township, NJ 08550). Van Nest Park is located in Grovers Mill. This will be a rain or shine event. We will be setting up under the picnic pavilion in the park. Stop on by to operate WØW or just to check out the action.

This year’s event will not coincide with the CQ World Wide contest so we won’t have to deal with as much congestion on the bands, especially 20 meters.

The DVRA has also been included in West Windsor Township’s Martian Week promotions. Check out the other events the township’s hosting for other fun things to do. The DVRA also got a mention on the West Windsor Historical Society’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/563818632183407/posts/1374247634473832/

We will be setting up two stations operating either SSB or CW as we did last year. We need folks to help operate WØW as well as setting up and taking down the stations before and after the event. Set-up begins at 11AM.

For SSB, we will try to have two people operating the station (one on the mic and the second doing the computer logging) in half hour shifts. CW ops, please bring your own straight key/bug/paddles. CW ops will need to do your own logging.

To make signing up to help with WØW easier, we have set up a signup page at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090A4BA9AC2CA6FE3-66125744-w0w2026#/. There are plenty of slots, feel free to sign up for multiple slots.

My tin foil hat is ready… is yours???
