New Sunspot Cycle 25 could be one of strongest on record, new research predicts.

On Wednesday, February 10th 2021, the Delaware Valley Radio Association monthly meeting HELD VIA VIRTUAL WEB CONFERENCE will feature a presentation titled “New Sunspot Cycle 25 could be one of strongest on record, new research predicts” by Dr. Scott McIntosh.

Dr. Scott McIntosh and a team of scientists led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) are predicting that the Sunspot Cycle 25 that started last fall could be one of the strongest since record-keeping began. The research team predicts that Sunspot Cycle 25 will peak with a maximum sunspot number somewhere between approximately 210 and 260, which would put the new cycle in the company of the top few ever observed. This prediction is based on new research and a theory that is still being debated in the scientific community.

Dr. McIntosh will provide an update on solar activity and how it tracks with their new predictions. As a primer for this presentation, please view the Nov 11, 2020 presentation before the Front Range 6 Meter Group (HERE). It’s a fascinating look at how using 22 year Hale Cycles and their Terminators, we can better predict an upcoming solar cycle intensity like cycle 25 which could be in the top 5 since records began.

Open to the public. Feel free to join for all or part of the meeting.

  • Combined Directors/Business Meeting from 7:00 to 7:30 PM
  • Featured presentation at 7:30 PM

Members will receive an email with instructions on how to join the Zoom teleconference by February 8th. Members of the public are invited to request conference credentials by sending a message to webmaster@w2zq.com
