- The sessions are scheduled to start at 10AM (with a 9:30-9:45AM call time for the volunteer examiners). Please bring:
o $15.00 cash or check made out to ARRL-VEC
o A government issued photo identification – drivers license, passport, etc.
o A copy of your current FCC amateur license (if appropriate).
- If you wish, prior to the examinations, you may download and fill out the application form NCVEC 605. Bring a filled in and signed form with you to the exam session. The NCVEC 605 form is available here:http://www.arrl.org/files/file/VEs/NCVEC%20Form%20605%202017%20Sept%20Interactive.pdf. Note: Blank NCVEC 605 forms will also be available the at the exam session.
If this is your first time taking a license exam:
The NCVEC 605 application form will ask you to supply a Federal Registration Number (FRN) and if you do not have one, supply your social security number (SSN) instead. Some people are a bit hesitant to give their SSN but it (or the FRN) is required by law for the FCC to process your application. The FRN is used in lieu of a SSN as a unique identifier when doing business with the FCC.
If you wish, you may obtain your own FRN prior to the license exam session to use on your application. Here’s a link to obtain your own FRN: https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do. The process is done on line and is fairly quick. Note, you will still be asked to supply your SSN when applying for your FRN. If you choose to supply your SSN on the NCVEC form, the FCC will issue you your own FRN when they issue your license.
